Sharpening your tools by hand is a core discipline of woodworking, and these waterstones represent the perfect combination of consistency and speed for tool sharpening.
Synthetic water stones remove material rapidly and leave an even scratch pattern. They are made from abrasive particles evenly mixed through a binding medium. During use, the binding medium breaks down, removing the worn-out abrasive particles and continually revealing a fresh, sharp abrasive surface.
These waterstones use a softer binder. This gives excellent feedback and speed, as the exposed abrasive is frequently being refreshed. They are capable of abrading high carbon and hard tool steels.
These waterstones require water to function, so soak your waterstone for approximately 15 to 20 minutes or until they stop bubbling before use. Water will penetrate the stone matrix and help to form a sharpening slurry as the stone wears during use. Its ok to allow your stone to dry out when not in use.
