TheWot Rot- Rot Repair Kithas been developed byDRIVE Marine Servicesas an effective repair process forrepairing rot in all sorts of applications. The only means of eliminatingrotaffected timber in the past has been to cut out the damaged material and replace it with a new section of timber. This is expensive and time-consuming and in some cases almost impossible without dismantling large areas of a boat or house window and door frames. The technique for carrying out a repair onrotaffected timber varies depending on the extent of the damaged area, whether it is a structural section or a clear finish is desired when the repair is completed.
DRIVE Marine Servicesdetailed Instructions supplied with each kit describe four techniques for repairingrotaffected timber with the easiest being a cosmetic repair where the damage is superficial/shallow (furry timber). Bote-Coteepoxy resinwith the addition ofTPRDAis poured onto the surface of the damaged area and allowed to soak in until the area is saturated. The next technique is to fill and seal therotten timberwhich is used where the area is not too large or is difficult to replace therotaffectedtimber. A sharp implement is used to determine the extent of the rot, as it will easily penetrate until solidtimberis contacted.Bote-Cote withTPRDAadded is then injected into the holes until therotten timberbecomes saturated and will absorb no moreepoxy resin. The other two techniques involve removing all of therotthen filling with thickenedBote-Coteepoxyor removing and replacing thetimber.
The kit contains everything needed to carry out a repair using the techniques described including syringes, draw-up needles, gloves, measure cups as well as the epoxyandTPRDA.
The key component of the kit is Timber Preservative Reactive Dilutant Agent (TPRDA) which was developed byBoatCraft Pacificfor adding withBote-Cote Epoxy Resin. It enables theBote-Coteto penetrate more effectively into the surface of the timber. It also has a significant amount of additive which will killrotspores it comes in contact with, thereby making it effective in eliminating rot in affectedtimberand sealing the timber to prevent further degradation.
