When we were tossing up between the Kreg and Torquata Shelf Drilling Jigs we brought both in and did a wip-round our workshop to see what our own woodworkers preferred. Surprisingly, the Torquata came out on top despite the lower cost, because the jig is built with a flat design that makes it easier to use in tight spaces and on tricky angles.
Overall, it’s a very well designed jig, which can allow even the laymans among us to drill shelf pin patterns accurately every time.
The 3mm-thick clear perspex body makes it easy to see your work, simply the slide the strong steel tubefence up against the edge of your carcass for easy registration, and use the included two retractable shelf pin drill bits to drill either 5mm or 1/4in shelf pin holes on the industry-standard 32mm hole centres.
The 5mm Adjustable Drilling Jig will allow you to drill up to 11 holes at once either 37 or 63mm from the front or back of the carcass and the fence can be swapped to work on both sides of the carcass.
We’ve found the shelf pin bits to be very reliable and we’re selling these Jigs with two self-centringdrill bits as standard – the 5mm & 1/4in. These are also available separately to be purchased as spare parts if required.
